Temperature: If a little one is too hot/cold they are more likely to wakeup due to feeling uncomfortable. Overheating is also risk factor for SIDS. In general the recommended room temperature for little ones is between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
Light: Light signals our brain that it's time to be awake. Good curtains or blinds are incredibly helpful. And a dim nighttime is fine, but if you can read a book with the nightlight on, then the nightlight is too bright.
Noise: When the environment around us is very noisy it can cause us to stay in a lighter stage of sleep or lead to difficulty falling or staying asleep. A white noise machine is fine and can be helpful to block the sounds of outside noise (cars on the street, barking dog, loud household appliances, etc.). Just make sure the sound machine is set to a constant sound (like wind), is located between your child's crib/bed and the door or window & it is not too loud (no louder than how it sounds when your shower is running).
