Using a sleep sack can be a good alternative once your baby has outgrown or can no longer use a traditional swaddle. Using a sleep sack (particularly when the weather is cooler) is also a wonderful way to ensure that your baby is warm enough without worrying about your baby becoming entangled in blankets, which is a safety concern. It can also sometimes be helpful in preventing toddlers and preschool aged children from climbing out of their cribs.

Waking at night is a natural occurrence and it's completely normal. In fact, little ones will generally wake anywhere between 2-6 times a night. The challenge (for parents) is if your toddler needs assistance in order to fall back to sleep in the middle of the night. How your toddler falls asleep at bedtime is what he will look for in the middle of the night when he wakes. So, if you nurse, hold, rock, bounce, lay with your toddler to help him fall asleep at bedtime then when he wakes in the middle of the night he will look for the same thing you did at bedtime in order to help him get back to sleep. However, if your toddler learns to self-soothe at bedtime then he will know how to put himself back to sleep in the middle of the night.
