When most people think of sleep coaching they unfortunately think only of the cry it out approach. However most parents, including myself, don't feel that the cry it out approach feels right to them. As a mom and a certified sleep coach I have met very few people who are able to listen to their baby cry it out for hours on end, which is why I don't recommend it. Instead, I recommend a gentler, more supportive method which relies on step-by-step changes in your child's nap and nighttime sleep routines where your child learns to sleep better, longer and more soundly all while feeling supported and loved by mom and dad. Your child will receive warm, responsive attention all while learning a very important, life-long skill. If you choose, you can still breastfeed and room share while using this gentler approach. And when your baby is well rested he or she feels better, happier and has more fun during the day. When you are more rested you feel less irritable, are more organized, more productive at work & have healthier relationships with your spouse, family and friends. That is why I work with each family to create an individualized sleep plan that fits their own unique parenting style and sleep goals.
