*The average age for potty training is 2 1/2 - 3 years of age. Some children may be interested earlier while others may need a bit more time.
* It is important to keep in mind while potty training that children need to be verbal enough to let you know when they are wet/dry.
* Read potty books to your child and use potty words to familiarize your child with the process.
* Consider getting your child his/her own floor potty so that he/she can rehearse going to the bathroom when he/she is ready. Initially some children may sit on the potty fully dressed and that is okay as they are just experimenting.
* It is usually best to start with daytime potty training and save the nighttime potty training for later. In fact, the bladder needs to grow big enough in order to go a full night without using the bathroom. As a result, it is not uncommon for children use a diaper or a pull-up at night until the age of 4 or 5 even while being completely potty trained during the day.
